Hair growth drugs are a non existant thing

I see a lot of questions on the internet that ask . “how can I make my hair grow faster, longer, fuller, etc”

The truth of the matter is. There is no great drug, or vitamin that will make your hair grow any way than its normal growth pattern. I found this article on web md about this very subject Doctor Doris Day of New York University writes :

I have a lot of patients who like taking their prenatal vitamins and they think that it helps their hair grow faster.

There is nothing in the literature that supports this. Prenatal vitamins are really just a nice mix of vitamins that support women who are planning pregnancy. They have ingredients like folic acid that women should not be deficient in when they are planning on getting pregnant, because of certain birth defects. But there is nothing special in a prenatal vitamin or any supplement that will help grow your hair.

I understand being a Cosmetologist , that hair is a very Important part of our lives. But at this point in time. It’s just not anything on the market that is a super hair growth drug.

The best thing you can do for your hair is to eat a healthy diet, drink lots of fresh water. Use the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type, and keep your hair groomed

More on color

When you go to the drugstore and look at the box color it has all kinds of information on it. They can be quite confusing. First thing you see is a color and a number.

The number refers to a the level of the hair. You can see the explanation on my previous post.

The next your gonna see is the color. All kinds or letters c cr rc, b, br, n r and varous other combinations .

C – copper

R – red

N – netural

M – mocha

A – ash

V – violet

B – brown

G – gold

W – warm

Then you get combinations of wn mg. mm bc br cg rb and more. You may even see br or cr . and rc . the firsr letter is the promanat color. Meaning cr theres more copper then red. And rc there is my red then copper

In my last post I talked about the devloper there are so many brands and different levels, they are 10 vol, 20 vol, 30 vol, 40 vol.. which are the most common ones used. You never used anything higher then 2o vol when using lightener . Unless you want your head raw. I have seen some pretty graphic pictures where a girls head was chemically burned because a stylist did not do her job right.

Each vol lifts that much .. ie . 10 vol lifts 1 level, 2o vol lifts 2 levels . 30 vol lifts 3 levels and 40 vol lifts 4 levels . (again see my last post for more info on levels of hair.)

I was told by a maxtix rep in a class. Honey you aint pulling red.. you brought it to the party. For me I am bring red to every party since i am a natural red head. Personally I have never wanted to and have no plans to ever change my hair color.. That does not mean I wont use Hair color. to enhance my hair .. by highlites lowlites. and just by refreshing my color so it looks more vibrant

What that means is: that everyones base color is red in varoring levels .. from red to orange to yellow. Even if your hair is a cool or a netural tone

Another big thing is care for hair that has been chemically treated.

You very much need a shampoo for color treated hair. And a good condtioner..

You aslo need to do a conditioning treatment once a month. Some people may need it more often if their hair is more damaged .

There are so many products to choose from I have been using Kenra’s hair masque .. I like it very well and recommend it if you can afford it. The Kenra Hair masque is around $20.oo us . and can only be purchased at a salon

What is hair color?

Before I get into this.. my insturctor says.. you lighten hair you bleach towls. you dye clothes you color hair.. I am not going to sit here and tell you how to color your hair at home.. the reason is 99 percent of the time you will not be happy with an at home kit.

With that said.. the next question is; what is hair color? its a method of changing the color of your hair by chemical process. there is so much to say about hair color and so many types and brands

First thing a stlist will do is determine what your hair is what level your hair is.. the levels are 1 - 10 . 1o being the lightest and 1 the darkest. Level do not mean blonde is level 1o because you can have a Level 9 or 8, or even 7 blonde .. then there is level 6, 5, 4, which are the medium tones.. then you go into 3, 2, 1 which are the darker tones.. Now i can throw in a monkey wrench into the mix.and red. which can be any level from 1o - 1 .. After that the stylist is going to determine your hair texture, is it fine medium or corse. The texture is important to know because fine hair sucks color up quickly whereas corse hair takes longer to process. Next, what if any other chemicals you have used. the porocity of your hair Another thing a stylist has to take into concidration is if there is any grey in your hair .. total grey hair is the same as a level 1 blond.

NOTE Asian hair and ethnic will never be a level 10 there is way to much pigment in there hair to safely lighten it, Asain hair can never be marilyn monroe blonde their hair will fall out before it gets that light Asian and Amercican Indain hair is the only type of hair that you may actually see the blue black color you some times see in comic books.

you can safely change the level of your hair up to 4 level with hair color. Anything more your going to have to use lightener.. which can go up to 7 or so levels.. this is why i say asian hair cannot go level 10 blonde because you would have to go 9 levels to get there..

Now that I got that part down the next thing you have decide is what you want your hair to look like. and whats the best product to use to get there.

there is:

tempory color - washes out the next shampoo

simi permanant color- washes out in 6- 8 shampoos ( depending on hair porosity and the color used)

demi permant color - deposits color but does not lift ..

permant color - lifts and deposits color ( can lift up to 4 levels )

and last but not least lightener, which lifts pigment out of your hair can lift up to around 7 levels depending on the devolper used.

color is not just as simple as opening a box and filling your hair full of it. A lot of what a stylist does is is formulate the color to get to the desired look a customer wants from hilites to all over color

I know thats what I have just typed out is just the tip top of the info about hair color but I hope it helps someone out there

nearly 2 wks

its been nearly 2 weeks since graduation.. unfortunitly I am still not in the state boards system. but I will keep checking every day.. I am bored out of my skull.. and my sleep patterns has turned upside down staying up all night and sleeping all day ..

theres really not much to talk about.. My baby girl is going to be 20 in 2 weeks.. hopefully by then I will be in the system.. I have been checking every day

Damaged hair

I topic of concern for a lot of people is damage to their hair. We all love to have our hair done.. weather it be just a little trim to an all over color..

The truth is that color damages our hair.. The peroxide that we use to color hair weather called developer, promoter.. or perxoide is all the same thing..,

heres the thing.. if you do your hair every 6 to 8 weeks as recomened .. and use the products recomened by your stylist, your hair will be great.

What damages your hair .. is bleaching it coloring it bleaching it coloring, over and over again.

So stop and think .. Do I want my hair to look like straw.. should I tried to bleach out color.

You can not fix damaged hair., you can patch it by using conditioners, deep conditioners can be used depending on how damaged your hair is from once a week to once a month,

No matter what tv tells you.. shampoo cannot fix damaged hair. Listen to your hair stylist.. and please do not true to do yours hair yourself.. thats what we are trained for..

Yes, your right.. the drug store, and walmart have a whole isle of so many types of hair color to put on your hair.. but, my guess is .. your not ever gonna get what you want out of store bought color.

Gradution day was Febuary 16, 2011 I had a wonderful day. My station was decorated woderfully. I loved it thank you Ryan, Amber, Amanda, and Dana. You guys are the greatest,




We went to lunch at noon, at the mexican resturant , then cake and ice cream.. I want to thank the staff at Arnolds Beauty School for everything they have done in the last year for me. I loved being at school, and i will miss you all,


Now for the hard part State boards.. Hopefully I can get in pretty quickly. and start to work asap

New date

Ok so we had a lot of bad weather here in my part of Tennessee, which means i missed three days of school.. Can we say not happy? However get over it move on.. Really what choice do I have. Not like I have any control of the weather.

So now my graduation date is weds Feb 16, 2011 at 3Pm. or there abouts. We are suppose to have reletivly nice weather for the next week or more, This I am very happy about. As my date draws near, I feel like its not real. Something is going to happen thats gonna stop me. I am so excited and sad at the same time.

Last week of School

Ok, so tomorrow is Monday Febuary 7, 2011. What that means is, Is its the first day of my last week of school before Graduation. Tomorrow the hours of opperation are from 9:15 to 1:30pm. school starts at 8am though.

We will do an hour of class, in my case its an hour of stateboard review. I have an appointment tomorrow at 9 though.. Jodi Heavner. who is a good friend and the author of Ameatica.. the world of noodles.. check her out. you'll love her Noodle world.. Plus she has the cutest little baby girl.. I am kinda a little nervous about being done with school. its a new path in my life.. next is stateboards then find a job doing hair, makeup and more.

I love my new path, I know that I can go far because its always been my passion ..
I will miss so many people there but, I can come back to visit..

a week and a half

Well it is a week and a half till i graduate.. wow.. does that not blow my mind.. I took my mock state boards last tuesday.. I did ok. not great.. but I know some of the things i did wrong so .. I hope that I can correct that.. That of course was the practical part.. The theory part .. well lets say, was not as good as I expected.. However,. I was told that the test given in mock boards is harder then the actual test.. so i was encouraged.. I think I will do fine..

Its been one heck of a year.. I have learned so much.. I was sitting here tonight looking at my nails.. they are pretty good. i did them of course.. the ones i did they day i started were horrible. I was horrible at nails.. Now.. I think I am good enough to charge.. YAY! thats a plus..

I love what I am doing.. I volintered to do the makeup at a runway show for St Judes hosipital. got some great pics.. I think I did really good.. Chaz the Salon owner liked my work.. I liked him also .. I think he is a very talented Stylist and we will be hearing about him in the world of beauty in the near future.

I am kinda disappointed in myself though.. I had big plans to blog this last year so much my devolopment and everything.. It just didnt happen.. I was not in a state of mind that I could be in the place I needed to be to do that.. Now I can the cause of my problem is gone.. Life has been so much better in the last month.. I am now off and running. look out world Sioux is here and I am here to stay!

Mock statboards

I have Mock state boards at school today. if you dont know what that means.. its a practice run for state boards to get my cosmetology license.. its probally an all day thing .. I am packed and ready.. I think I'm ready for this.. I graduate in 2 wks.. which means.. If i am not ready .. I have to get ready... Atleast I have one less stress to deal with .. that is the end of my 7 yr relationship.. it was a hard desision to make but in the end was the right one. It just wasnt a good place for me to be in ..

Of course a major stress was the passing of my dad in December. Also my mom getting sicker..
The Kids are grown now.. So basically its time for me to be where I want to be.. In life physically and mentally..

I really want to move to Nashville.. I know that I can make a better living there.. I would be leaving all my friends and atleast part of my family.. I just think it would be in my best interest to do so.. I know that I will start as a assitant or something like that if I do go to Nashville but, hey everyone has to start somewhere

coming to an end..

I have tried to keep postive through this last year.. its been a long hard year.. with school.. and my father passing away 2 wks ago.. I ended a 7 yr reletionship.. that should have ended 6 yrs ago.. or 7 yrs ago .. But now.. I have a about a month of school left .. 1 month to graduate from Arnolds Beauty School.. I am so excited that its this close.. and so sad at the same time.. I love school.. My instructors are the best.. I love them all .. I am also doing my first wedding as a makeup artist, very excited about that forsure

so whats next in my life.. This I know. I will take state boards.. find a job.. live. love, laugh.. take care of my son.. and my daughter.. as much as I can since she lives 2hrs away with her husband..

Where will I live.. This I dont know.. My mother is sick. very sick.. and there is no way that I am leaving her as long as she needs me to be here. So what will happen how will it happen .. I have no idea.. but life will go on.

This has been one heck of a year.. Now my dad died.. last sunday.. to bizare.. really hasnt sunk in yet.. on the plus side i have one month of school left when i go back.. pretty much took me a year to finish.. I started Jan 26, 2010 and hopefully will graduate feb, 3, 2011 thats about a week after my 1 yr anniversary there.

Great Month

Its been a great month for me.. I made it to 1000 hours at school.. I went to the Premire Brimingham Hair show weekend of Oct 17,18 2010. this weekend Oct 23, 2010 I did my first runway show.. I did the makeup for so many girls.. regular makeup and airbrushed with the Dinair makeup airbrush. I was told by both the salon owner and the woman that works at the shop that I was the prefered Makup artist. there was only two of us though. I had so much fun.. I cant even tell you how many girls I did.. I was so tired by the end of the day.. It was a good tired though. One like you know you worked all day.. I made a good impression.. thats the best thing. I so hope to work with them again. I love this work.. I live it every day..

its been a long time since i posted aug 4, 2010 it tells me on here.. so much has been going on . but the best thing is i have 900 hours plus at school.. the birmingham hair show is coming up to.. i plan to go.. I should have my student loan by then.. they tell me friday week thats going to be so much fun. i hope anyway.. theres so much to say and i am tired I will make a point of adding more to this later on .. when its not bedtime

Lovin school

I am thankfull that I am not getting so many pedicures in school. its not that I hate them. its just not my fav thing to do.. I mean it is hair school.. so I want to learn more about hair styling which I am . I've been getting a few more hair cuts lately .. which is like the best. I did not have any pedicures last friday .. which made me so happy .. 3 roller sets.. a hair cut and eyebrow tint *same patron for the last two* yesterday i did 2 hair cuts. A woman and her son.. and today.. yes a pedi . but also a hair cut. A man came in with atleast shoulder length hair .. I cut it all off from temple down with a #2 gaurd and then just really short on top.. The man was Happy with it.. so thats excellant.. I am really tired.. I dont know why but im sure it will get better.. when i get myself back in order w/ my meds and all .. but I am still really happy with school.

school

Well it’s almost time for school. I love going to school. I love learning new stuff every day... hair cutting class was last Thursday. Even thought i did cut my fingers a couple times.. (memo to self shears are sharp lol ) I made it through Friday without one... that’s the number ZERO, pedicures... so happy... means I’m moving up in class.
I did 3 roller sets... 1 hair cut, brow tint... and pretty much that a day... since its a short day to begin with we get out at 3 on Fridays... So it’s always busy and hectic... I do have a feeling that when it gets more into fall and winter it may slow down a bit. There won’t be 50 million pedicures since ppl will be wearing shoes instead of sandals. There will always be pedi's but not so much in colder weather. thank the gods for that. It’s not that I hate pedi’s but their just not my fav thing to do. Any way .. I guess I'm going to try and snatch a few Z's before school. since its 3am and i have to be at school in 5 hrs..

coming close to half way done

it seems like yesterday when i was waiting for school to start. it didnt seem like it would ever get here.. and now its here and im close to 700 hours.. i will have 700 + by the end of next week. i seriously cant believe its so far along.. 1500 hours will be here soon and I will be graduating and moving on to bigger and better things. I guess its time I start looking for a job .. IDk its atleast 6 mo away before I will be done. then another month before I will be able to take state boards I am super excited and a little nervous at the same time .. right now in school were learning about hair color.. and to match it to skin tone whether warm, cool or neutral .. you would not believe how much you have to learn about that.. its not just saying i have brown hair and i want it blonde. theres so many steps in between.. knowing if you can even get the hair to a blonde color with out frying it.. its totally amazing.

school coming along

well I am 6mo into school i have close to 600 hours.. and I still love school.. I did a perm today.. been getting more and more customers but less pedicures then before, thanks the gods.. I did 3 hair cuts last week and 1 this week so far.. I am loosing weight.. getting more stamina.. and moving ahead.. getting better all the time at acrylic nails..

I cant wait till I get done with school and start working.. I still love school like i said every day.. the staff is great.. the students are good.. and making new friends..

new class starts july 27 and my daughters bff will be in it.. got a car too.. life is getting better all the time.. the Goddess is certainly on my side it seems..
